Who We Are
Automation & AI Lead
Hey, I'm Jack — the strategic and technical head of Hello Bridges. I've worked on $1B+ of infrastructure tenders and independently automated a $300k+ p.a. document creation process.
I've always loved building systems. Whether I'm setting up a new CRM, building an Excel model, or developing a website like this one… really getting to the heart of a problem and building a satisfying way to solve it brings me joy.
Outside Hello Bridges, I'm currently completing my MBA and adore any kind of heavy rain or fog!
Research Lead
Hi, I'm Jess – the research, compliance, and policy head of Hello Bridges. I'm passionate about tackling complex problems through rigorous analysis, and finding practical solutions for those doing good work for the world.
I'm completing my PhD on international trade and farmed-animal policy, and hold a Juris Doctor (1st Class Distinction) and LLM in Animal Law. I've worked extensively with global NGOs and am published in 10+ academic journals.
I love reading over coffee and taking long walks in nature to process this complex world we live in!

A CHANGING WORLD
The next 10 years may be the most important in all of human history. We are on the precipice of superhuman AI — a development that would permanently alter the very fabric and structure of society. And unlike prior technological innovations that created as many jobs as they destroyed, true general intelligence would have the ability to learn and compete for those new roles too. (Not to mention the risks of building Skynet, Roko's basilisk, or some other horror!) Whether this risk turns out to be existential or merely economic, adaptation is more crucial than ever to avoid being left behind.

BEHIND THE HYPE
… And People Know It
We don't all agree on the exact capabilities of AI today — but collectively, we're acting in more unison than ever. Virtually every major tech company is making similar bets and investments in the technology; even skeptics are rebranding themselves as AI thought leaders. The result is a noisy, fractured, and incredibly high-pressure information environment where we feel the need to do *something* with AI but lack certainty on what.

MARKET FAILURE
Exploitation is Rife
In turn, this 'AI gold rush' culture has led to predatory behaviour. LLM wrappers notoriously overpromise and underdeliver. We're told AI will consolidate our other tools that were meant to be all-in-one solutions already. We've even seen several new startups with 100% fake reviews — all clearly generated by the same language model. The mysterious nature of neural networks, paired with their sudden ubiquity and ease of access, rewards those willing to claim that they alone have unlocked AI's potential.

LOST FOCUS
Vision is Rare
With so much uncertainty to grapple with over the short-term, we've lost focus on many other qualities essential to growth and having impact — from building systems that can actually be maintained and relied upon, to designing services for how consumers will behave a year from now… not just how they behave today. So too have our business relationships have become transactional and guarded; we each make private forecasts on how the world will evolve, just to pick out a handful of faceless software vendors at $29/month/user and hope we've gained some edge.

Hello Bridges is our attempt to address these gaps in the market and in our lives. We want to help good people — especially non-profits! — operate more efficiently and survive this period of immense change. We want to accomplish that in an honest, caring, and farsighted manner (to the best of our ability). We're excited both to do great work, and to take on daunting projects; to share crazy ideas about what the future might hold, and chart new paths to get there. Above all, we're passionate about doing our best… and wow, what a time to be alive!
